SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Sioux City will be getting its first hospice house, providing a home for people who are facing the end of their life and assisting their families.
That announcement came from the board of directors of the new "Mitchell House", which will be built on land donated by the Diocese of Sioux City near Military and Ross Streets. It will feature six, master suite bedrooms. The building and the nonprofit group are named after fourth-generation Sioux City businessman Ray Mitchell Jr.
"My mom went through hospice and had the panic of what she was going to do with my dad," said Susan Macfarland, President of Mitchell Hospice House. "Our is going to be truly a home. There will be no call lights, room numbers, just another option for people to go when their home doesn’t work.”
Construction is set to start this Spring, with the opening set for late fall. So far they've raised $1.5 million towards their goal of a $4.5 million endowment.
